Where the Irish of the Delaware Valley meet

Join us as we travel to "Reel" Ireland tomorrow night (March 27) at the Irish Center!
It's the first in a series of Irish films being presented as a joint venture between irishphiladelphia.com (Jeff Meade & Denise Foley), Yours Truly (host of "Come West Along the Road") and the Irish Center. Tomorrow's film is "The Boys and Girl from Co. Clare" which is a light romance/comedy about two brothers going head-to-head at the All Ireland Ceili Band competition. This is a nice chance to see a film in a comfortable setting with refreshments (ahhh, a pint of Guinness and some of John Nolan's famous fries!) followed by a sesiun. What could be finer? Admission is....ummmm....FREE!

This film series took place last year. We've talked about doing it again but at this time have no definite plan. What I'm doing now at the Irish Center is the Rambling House which takes place the third Thursday of every month. It is a night of songs, poems, stories, tunes, dancing with folks contributing their party piece. The next one takes place on Thursday, April 16th at 8:00. Let me know if you need more details. I will probably post it up on this site next week some time.

Marianne, what time does this start? Also, is this in place of the slow (learning) session that's on the calendar?

Thanks,
Terry

Brilliant, Rob! I absolutely love Father Ted! Maybe we'll see what the interest is and start a few weeks of Ted, Dougal, Jack and Mrs. Doyle. (You'll have a cup of tea, ah sure, you'll have a cup...) We could show at least two to three episodes a week. My favorite is when Ted and Dougal go on holiday to the caravan and the hippies show up. And it would be much more fun to watch the shows with a crowd of Teddites than squinting at them on YouTube...

Not to imply that your selection is at all bad--quite the opposite--but after the heft of Bloody Sunday and My Left Foot, have you considered showing a few episodes of Father Ted? I own the entire Unholy Trilogy on DVD and would gladly offer them up for everyone's viewing pleasure. That would also provide me with an excuse to actually attend a Reel Ireland night. The show is good, side-cracking craic, and brought me through the dreariness of the last two winter seasons with a smile on my mug. If you've never seen it, look it up on YouTube and hold on to your gut.

Best,
--Rob

Most, if not all, of the movies we've shown can be rented from a good video store. We own most of them but I think if you checked with TLA or a really good store you could probably rent them. We are hoping to keep the series going as we are close to the end of the six week series. We may also try to do some matinees on Sunday afternoons in the summer if there is enough interest. Tomorrow's film is "Bloody Sunday" and next week's film is "My Left Foot".

Is there any way to see some of these movies since I can't seem to make movie night at the center?
