Grew up in the Northeast in Our Lady of Calvary parish. Father from Frankford - Mother from Mt. Airy. My father (as many in his family) was a singer in the 'stand by the piano' style of the '40s and '50s and loved his Irish repertoire. My mother's people (Johnson & Emlen Sts.) had immediate connections to Glasgow as well as Toome, Co Antrim. I began learning and performing Irish songs with Mrs. Buck's troupe (from Kensington) when I was eleven. Planxty opened the door for me to more traditional styles in the mid-'70s. I've been going and growing in the music ever since. Now live in Kentucky w/ B/C boxplayer wife - three singing, grown kids - a border collie and a couple of dachsunds..
Great to see you Danny in St. Louis..............wish I had not been so sick, the music I would have taken in much more freely, functioning with that cold was a struggle! Tionol in St. Louis is one of my very favorite festivals, and one I'll always be glad to support. I have the same sort of feelings for the commodore barry club, that place has opened so many doors of learning for me......
Yo, fellow Phillies phans!!! How 'bout them Phightins?!?! Makes me proud to have played with my old pancaked Robin Roberts' glove back in the day (way back in the day, I'm afraid...) On another note:
