For Irish musicians, St. Patrick's Day is like the high holy days of the calendar year--unfortunately, this year it actually does coincide with the high holy days, coming on the heels of Palm Sunday and sandwiched before Easter. Booking nightmare. Yet still we're busy. Dennis and I have 2 gigs that day--our usual playing at Murphy's Market in Medford--yes, the grocery store. Ron Murphy really goes all out. Then we have a concert that night in Riverton at the lovely Porch Club.
Kathy,
What time do you play at Murphy's? When Fintan and Tom finish up? Send me your info in a condensed form so I can announce it on the air as it gets closer to the day. Thanks!
Hi Marianne: we're there from 10am-2pm. Last year we were conveniently located right in front of the Doritos near the front entrance. And yes, we get a bit of shopping done while we're on break. Murphy's has a line of Irish foods and we generally stock up on the Barry's tea while we're there.
Not to usurp the post...Fintan Malone & Tom Brett (Blarney) play there from 9:30 until 1:30 before they had out to the second and third bookings for that day.
Murphy's Market now has 3 locations. Two in Medford and one in Tabernacle. Tom & Fintan do the one store and Dennis & I play at the Taunton Forge location. My friends Rick Wharton and Rich McGeehan, from the 3Beans session, play at the store in Tabernacle.
I love having a supermarket less then a mile away that has Irish music. Can't beat that. Now if Ron would only have beer that morning we would all be set
