Immigration Reform will resuscitate the stagnant US economy…

The United States is a nation of immigrants which historically always had a liberal U.S. immigration policy. During the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, immigration to the United States was essentially open, and, at times, immigrants were even recruited to come to America to help with the settlement of undeveloped areas of the country. Until the 1920’s, no numerical limits on immigration existed in America.

What happened? Racial theories based on junk science began to influenc… Continue

Philadelphia immigrants afraid to report crimes

The mission of the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is to fight crime, prevent crime from occurring, and improve the quality of life for all Philadelphians. That sounds great in theory, but in practice, the PPD need witnesses to help them prosecute criminals in Philadelphia and with the implementation of the Secure Communities Program (SCP), more and more people in Philadelphia are refusing to step up to the plate to be a witness or cooperate with the PPD for fear of deportation.

Green Cards through Marriage

The following is a top ten (10) list of practical advice regarding Green Cards through Marriage:

1. Don’t bother with K1 finance or K3 spouse visas: They take too long to obtain and if you use an attorney you’ll end up paying twice or even three times.
2. Marry your fiancé in the US and submit paperwork in the US. The process is easier and you and your loved one get to stay together.
3. Foreign born persons that enter the US legally may apply to adjust status without leaving US.
4. Be patient b… Continue

Complete novice looking for a fiddling instructor

I'm new to BallyPhilly and I happened upon this site while looking for instructors in the Philadelphia area who teach Irish fiddling. It has always been a goal of mine to learn to fiddle and I am looking for an instructor in the area. I live in Media, PA but am willing to travel. I am a complete novice (at 34) to the fiddle/violin, however I am able to read music. Thanks.

Irish Immigrant’s Legal Handbook

For starters, I am an Irish immigrant that arrived on the shores of Philadelphia on July 4th, 1988.
I point this out because I am very familiar with the challenges associated with immigrating to America.

For the past few years I have been tinkering around with the idea of creating an “Irish Immigrant’s Legal Handbook,” which would include basic, yet vital legal information pertaining to Immigration Law, Criminal Law, Real Estate Law, Landlord Tenant Law, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law and… Continue
